Digital Painting and Photo Art is artwork that is created directly on a
computer using graphic software programs that replicate
traditional painting techniques. As a broad comparison,
think of the basic Microsoft Paint program that comes with most
versions of Windows. Digital Painting involves a similar
concept using much more sophisticated programs.
Programs such as Project
DogWaffle PD Pro, Corel Painter XI, Vue Easel,
Jasc, ArtRage, OpenCanvas, Adobe Illustrator and others, can reproduce
artistic effects right down to canvas choices, blending with
hundreds of different brushes, color mixing on a virtual
palette, and brushstroke simulation. All with the use of a keyboard, mouse and
graphic tablet that enable the artist to use precise hand
movements that simulate a real pen, painting, and drawing
surface. The drag of a mouse on the mousepad or the scroll
of a pen across the tablet becomes the stroke of a brush across
the screen - where anything from breathtaking landscapes to
eye-popping abstracts can be created. From surrealism and
impressionistic masterpieces to the look of traditional
watercolour and oils and photorealistic portraits - the
possibilities are endless. It's like having a studio of
paint and brushes right on your desktop. The result is a
beautifully crafted digital painting that can be reproduced and
professionally printed as any other valued
piece of artwork.
The digital paintings on
this website were created using several different programs and
techniques that in some cases combine a small amount of photo manipulation
with artistic rendering to create a single digital painting.
Each can take many hours to create.
Just as with traditional painting mediums, which are not the
same amongst art manufacturers, for example, canvases, brushes,
colors, hues, textures, etc, not all digital software illustration programs
offer the same capabilities. This is why it is sometimes
necessary, and not unusual, for artists to use several programs
to replicate the desired look they are trying to achieve. Blending capabilities and brush strokes might
produce different results from program to program. The painting
of fine details such as eyes and fur might be better achieved in
one program over another. It is up to the individual
artist to experiment with their creative expression.
Digital painting is
a recognized form of digital graphic
arts.
The paintings on this
website have been created using various digital arts illustration
software unless otherwise noted.
