Kathy
Seadon got her first Sheltie in 1978 as a gift from her parents
for her 15th birthday. That dog was DUSTY, and what a
beautiful gift he turn out to be!
Registered as BISS Ch. Summer
Dust CD, and bred by Marilyn O'Donnell of Dyniques Shelties,
Dusty turned out to be one of the top winning Canadian Shelties
of his time. Needless to say, Kathy became hooked on dogs and
has been involved in the dog world ever since. Her kennel
name of Seabrooks was registered with the Canadian Kennel Club
in 1981.
Kathy has shown a
number of Shelties to their
championships in past years, both for herself and for friends, with
multiple group placements and specialty wins to her credit.
Though conformation remains her primary focus, she has also
been known to venture into the obedience ring on occasion in the
past, once achieving a High in Class, High Aggregate, and High
in Trial score with Dusty on his way to picking up
his Companion Dog title.
When Kathy picked up a brush and began
painting Shelties a few years ago, it seemed like a natural
extension for her love of this
breed. She is largely a self-taught artist, but has
received some private lessons from an artist friend, took a few
community classes, and with some guidance from her mother Lee,
(who is also an artist), Kathy soon developed a natural talent
for painting life-like images of these wonderful dogs and other
animals.
She works
primarily in acrylics, but has dabbled in other mediums such as
oil, water colour, and pastel, and most recently has discovered
the new medium of digital painting and photo art using graphic
software programs that replicate conventional painting
techniques directly on a computer. Her knowledge and
understanding of traditional painting techniques has been a
tremendous asset in applying her skills to the computer
generated painting process. She paints strictly as a hobby
under but has accepted the occasional commissions
over the years from friends.
Kathy and Dave live just
outside of Winnipeg, with their Golden Retriever, four Shelties,
and two exceptionally temperamental cats.
They breed their dogs
occasionally over the years, and
are longstanding
members of the Canadian Kennel Club, the
Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association, the Winnipeg Area
Shetland Sheepdog Association, and most recently the Golden Retriever Club
of Manitoba.
Kathy still shows dogs for herself and others on
occasion.
